Our Philosophy

The goal of Rios Daycare is to incorporate learning into every aspect of the day and create an engaging environment where children can flourish. Children learn through play, so Rios Daycare will promote intellectual development by incorporating fun games that allow children to interact with each other and their environment. An example of this would be having the children find a toy that is a particular color and then showing their friends what toy they selected or using paint to match the colors of the rainbow. These types of activities help develop the child’s cognitive and executive functions, build social and problem-solving skills, and foster creativity and self-regulation while strengthening their physical skills. As part of the learn through play approach, children will learn new songs, dances, and corresponding hand motions. These activities also help with the physical development of the children. When the weather is nice, children have ample time to play outdoors. This gives them an opportunity to run, jump and have free play.

To encourage learning and introduce children to new words, books will be read to the children every day. Books are also utilized to introduce the children to new animal sounds and correspond the correct sound to the correct object. Older children are able to read books on their own to explore new and exciting concepts. Developmentally appropriate activities are provided for each child by following Nebraska’s Early Learning Guidelines. Additionally, Rios Daycare has a garden so the kids can learn simple science concepts and how to grow vegetables. This will also help teach the kids responsibility because they will oversee watering, weeding and harvesting.

So children are not over stimulated, screen time and background noise will be limited. Activities and supplies will be organized in a manner that allows the children to be part of cleaning up their activities and keeping their environment free of clutter. This will also foster the development of responsibility. Older children further learn responsibility by being a helper. As a helper, they will assist with setting up snacks, handing out plates etc. Rios Daycare will implement strategies from the Pyramid Model to help children learn how to positively regulate and express their emotions. Emotional and Social Development is important, and children need to know that they are loved and cared for, so children receive hugs and encouragement throughout the day. Corrections and conversation are conducted at eye level with the child.

To further foster social development, engagement with other community members, Rios Daycare takes children on field trips to include the zoo and parks.

Rios Daycare has a goal to prepare younger children to have the social and emotional skills and the educational foundation needed to enter Kindergarten. Younger children will learn letter sounds and older children will learn site words. Rios Daycare has also been researching community programs that provide additional learning resources for the children.
